Evaluation of Project/Dissertation Work For R-15

1. After approval from the PRC, the soft copy of the thesis should be submitted to the University for ANTI-PLAGIARISM for the quality check and the plagiarism report should be included in the final thesis. If the copied information is less than 24%, then only thesis will be accepted for submission.

Guidelines for Plagiarism Check

The following guidelines must be adhered to for submitting the Plagiarism reports generated by Turnitin or ithenticatesoftwares at the time of project / thesis submission:

1. The project / thesis must undergo a Plagiarism Check by either Turnitin or ithenticate software.
2. The exclusion at the time of performing the check should be limited to the following:

• Quotes
• Bibliography
• Phrases
• Small matches upto 10 words
• Small similarity less than 1%
• Mathematical Formula
• Name of Institutions, Departments etc.

3. Regarding Self Plagiarism or cases where published work of the student is shown as Plagiarism in the check, a certificate (Plagiarism Self Exclusion Certificate, attached) has to be issued by the Supevisor specifying and attaching the articles that have been published by the student from thesis work. Only these articles should be excluded from the check. No other article of the Supervisor or the student should be excluded from the check.

Plagiarism Reference List

• Copying text "as is" without quotation marks and with no citation or source.
• Reordering the elements of the source text without citation.
• Copying pieces (sentences, key phrases) of the source text without citation.
• Paraphrasing without citation.
• Reproducing information that is not common knowledge without citation.
• Incorporating an idea heard in conversation without citation.
• Using your own past material or another student's material as a new idea without citation.
• Paying for another to contribute to your work without citation.
• Using software or online translators to translate material without citation.
• Paying someone else to do your work, purchasing material, or translating from someone else's material (web-based or hard copy) without citation. Presenting someone else's work as own;
• Copying words or ideas of another person without specifyingthe original authorship;
• Not using quotation marks;
• Giving incorrect information about the source that iscited;
• Changing words but copying the sentence structure ofthe source without specifying the source or authorshipof the original;
• Copying so many words or ideas which eventually makemost of the work, regardless of whether the source is acknowledgedor not.

Low- Level Plagiarism:

When the plagiarism is a result of negligence or without intent to cheat and the similarity between documents marginally outside the limit, the candidate may be allowed to resubmit the work with proper citations.

Mid- Level Plagiarism:

Failure to cite proper citations, copying few paragraphs only. Intent to cheat is very low and may be due to lack of knowledge. The similarity between documents is outside the limit. The candidate may be allowed to resubmit the work with proper citation and with a warning not to repeat the mistake again otherwise registration in the programme will be cancelled.

High- Level Plagiarism:

Deliberate and planned attempt to copy the work done by someone else. Large amount of data taken from someone else’s work, art work copying, source code copying etc. Intention to cheat is very clear. The candidate‘s registration may be cancelled.

Plagiarism, Intentional or not, comes with penalties.
